It is important not to overreact to preseason football, but the Dallas Cowboys have hardly generated any excitement in their first two games. While other fan bases have been wowed by performances from rookies and other young guns, the Cowboys have mustered just 27 first downs and are fresh off being out-snapped 79 to 47 by the Ravens in Saturday's loss.

The play of Joe Milton has a lot to do with that, but Brian Schottenheimer would have hoped to have more positives to cling to. It would behoove Schottenheimer to give his starters some burn in Friday's finale so the team has some momentum before their Week 1 showdown against the Eagles.

Philadelphia is only 1-1 in preseason, but they proved they are in midseason form over the weekend when they acquired wide receiver John Metchie from the Texans.

Eagles' trade for WR John Metchie adds to Cowboys' preseason woes

Why do teams insisting on helping the Eagles?!

It's frustrating, but Howie Roseman is the best general manager in the business. The Eagles have arguably the league's best WR duo in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Now, they have a rock-solid foursome in Brown, Smith, Jahan Dotson and Metchie.

In typical Roseman fashion, he got great value, acquiring Metchie and a 2026 sixth-round pick for tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

Dotson and Metchie are interchangeable as WR3/4. The former caught 19 passes for 216 yards without a touchdown last season. While an underwhelming stat line, the Eagles didn't need anything more from Dotson, who was only targeted 33 times in a run-heavy offense.

The addition of Metchie now gives Philadelphia the wiggle room to shop Dotson to improve their defense as they have second-year pro Johnny Wilson and Terrace Marshall to round out the WR room.

A second-round pick in 2022, Metchie missed his entire rookie year after he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. He thankfully recovered and filled a depth role behind top targets Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell the last two seasons, catching 40 passes for 415 yards and one TD.

Metchie became expendable after the Texans used two of their first three picks on Iowa State receivers Jayden Higgins (No. 34 overall) and Jaylin Noel (No. 79 overall). Of course the Eagles were the team to capitalize.

This is far from a blockbuster trade, but it further underlines how serious Phlly is after hoisting the Lombardi Trophy last season. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are busy signing players from the UFL to fill their gaping hole at cornerback.
