Could the Dallas Cowboys fire up the trade engines with the Green Bay Packers again? The latest idea on the NFL trade deadline rumor mill might just send Cowboys fans into absolute chaos yet again.
But at least to a degree, it makes some sense.
Jori Epstein of Yahoo! Sports pointed out that there is a huge demand for cornerback help around the NFL, and the Dallas Cowboys might have a unique way to get value for Trevon Diggs, whose discontent with the franchise is noted, and vice versa. But would they really entertain this idea of trading him to rejoin Micah Parsons with the Green Bay Packers?
Wild trade idea would have Cowboys sending Trevon Diggs to join Micah parsons with Packers
Here's Epstein's logic behind the idea:
"A team that should at least call: the Green Bay Packers, who may remember which number to dial after a preseason trade for Micah Parsons. Green Bay could use cornerback depth and seems to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender that would have use for a player late in December and into January, if not beyond.
Add in Diggs’ best friend, Parsons, being there, and his college position coach, Derrick Ansley, now Green Bay’s defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach? The Packers may be able to maximize Diggs in ways the Cowboys no longer can."
- Jori Epstein, Yahoo! Sports
Some of the other highlights Epstein points out is the offseason disagreement between the Cowboys and Diggs over his training in Florida, fining him $500K for violating his contract, and Jerry Jones calling out the "shape" Diggs has been in.
Honestly, it's not the craziest idea in the world. The Cowboys would likely have to eat some of Diggs's salary to make this happen, and that wouldn't be a really big deal over the long haul. In fact, with Shavon Revel's practice window opening up recently, the timing may be perfect.
And the Packers should be expected to be one of the top teams in the market for cornerback help overall, although as the article points out, there's high demand at that position around the NFL.
It wouldn't be losing Diggs that would be so upsetting for many Cowboys fans, but simply the idea of ultimately giving in to his best-case scenario instead of the team's. The same goes for Parsons. The Cowboys would be a living example of Squidward looking out the window at Spongebob and Patrick frolicking around.
Factor in that Diggs has sort of checked out since Parsons was traded, and you have maybe the perfect storm for some more fireworks between these two teams. Especially because Dallas feels like it nailed the 2025 NFL Draft, even without a ton of early returns from some of the players, this is a move that wouldn't be overly shocking, though it would send shockwaves through the league.
