If there is one thing we have learned about Micah Parsons' contract negotiation with the Dallas Cowboys, it's that Parsons isn't going to let Jerry and Stephen Jones control the narrative.
Parsons reported to camp and has called out ownership through the media various times while negotiations have stalled. According to the latest intel, Parsons has made his most devastating leverage play yet.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Parsons' relationship with the Cowboys has reached a point where Parsons could demand a trade or "sever" his relationship with the team.
Cowboys star Micah Parsons mulling possible trade request as contract talks make zero progress
"When Parsons’ agent pushed back and attempted to negotiate further, the Cowboys declined to engage with him and told the pass rusher to honor the agreement he had made," Russini reported.
As easy as it is to smash the panic button - and even reconsider your Cowboys fandom - we would hold off on that for the time being. While Parsons is clearly unhappy, Russini is reporting that a trade request could happen. It does not appear Parsons has formally asked for a trade.
The Cowboys' front office is as dysfunctional as any in the world of sports, but they are not trading Parsons.
In a recent interview, Jerry Jones called Parsons one of the most talented players the organization has ever had. He has also lauded Parsons for reporting to camp without a contract. Jones plays games through the media, but this saga is going to end with Parsons signing with the richest contract for a non-quarterback in league history.
The problem is that the Joneses repeatedly let things get to this point. It is exhausting and frustrating, but there were trade rumors following Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb before they ultimately took the Joneses to the cleaners. Myles Garrett requested a trade from the Browns this offseason before re-upping with Cleveland at $40 million per year.
Panic is undoubtedly warranted, but let's not go thinking that Parsons has played his last snap for the Cowboys.
