The Dallas Cowboys have managed to blow away even the lowest of expectations regarding their search for a new head coach.
After promising to cast a wide net, they have interviewed four candidates, two of which seemingly were to satisfy the NFL's Rooney Rule. Meanwhile, one used to be their offensive coordinator (Kellen Moore), while the other served as their OC the last two seasons (Brian Schottenheimer).

That did not do well to simmer talk of Dallas being an unserious organization. That was only amplified after Schottenheimer emerged as the favorite after two sets of interviews spanning several hours on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reports claimed Schottenheimer could be announced as head coach no later than Friday, but that timetable has hit a snag after Thursday's developments.
Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram came to the rescue, reporting that Jerry Jones has reached out to Pete Carroll regarding the vacancy. Why did Harris have to come to the rescue? Because another underwhelming candidate entered the mix earlier in the day.
Cowboys reportedly had interest in Packers special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia for their head coaching job
According to Joseph Hoyt of DLLS, the Cowboys had "some level of interest" in Packers special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia for their head coaching vacancy.
Bisaccia served as Dallas' special teams coordinator from 2013 to 2017. While Bisaccia has never been a head coach, he was the Raiders' interim HC in 2019 and finished an impressive 7-5. He interviewed for the permanent title but lost out to Josh McDaniels, who was fired halfway through the 2023 season after compiling a 9-16 record.
Bisaccia is a players coach in every sense of the word, but it is utterly laughable that he was purportedly no the Cowboys' radar.
Fortunately, it seems Bisaccia is far down the candidate pecking order. Per Cowboys insider Ed Werder of WFAA, Dallas has not requested to interview Bisaccia.
For what it's worth, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told Werder he believes Bisaccia would make a terrific head coach and deserves the opportunity because "he's demanding, but respected by all because of how he invests in his players." If that is the case, then why hasn't he received any HC interest outside of Dallas?
The Cowboys' interest in Bisaccia just confirms the widespread belief that Jerry Jones' prioritizes comfort, saving money and liking the people he works with. It is within those parameters, and those parameters only, that Jones runs the franchise. He's familiar with Bisaccia and would retain full control if he was hired. The same can be said for Schottenheimer and Kellen Moore if they got the job.
At this rate, Cowboys fans need to pray Carroll gets the job because there's no telling who else could enter the picture after this development.
