Cowboys may be preparing a not-so-jolly holiday surprise for Matt Eberflus

To Dallas Cowboys fans everywhere, happy holidays. You know, this year could have been much worse. Let's just face it, it really could have.

Thankfully, the offense has held up its part of the bargain, for the most part. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens have been phenomenal, and it's been nice to see the surprise season out of Javonte Williams.

On the other side of the ball, however, the Cowboys very well could be planning for a harsh post-holiday decision involving none other than defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. It is true, Eberflus was once a great defensive mind. But those days appear to be behind him, as his Cowboys unit has sputtered for the majority of the year.

In short, Eberflus is going to be getting a gigantic lump of coal for Christmas.

Translation: it's over for him in Dallas.

Matt Eberflus is going one-and-done with the Cowboys as he'll get the boot shortly after the holidays

Recently, we saw Eberflus make the switch from calling plays on the field to now finding himself above in the booth. As if there wasn't a more obvious white flag being thrown by the former Chicago Bears head coach.

It's going to be brutal; two firings in two years for Flus -- but it's happening.

This Cowboys defense, Micah Parsons or not, was going to be bad from the jump, so long as Eberflus was leading it.

On the season, the Cowboys' defense has allowed the third-most yards per game, the second-most points and has generated the fourth-fewest takeaways. That's ... not great.

Their run defense has gotten a little better since trading for Quinnen Williams, yes, but on the year they are still allowing the sixth-most yards per carry. Forget Jerry Jones and all of his nonsensical takes on why Parsons couldn't stop the run -- Eberflus' defense, as a whole, cannot stop the run.

How about the pass defense? Let's check in on that group.

Heading into a Christmas Day matchup against the Washington Commanders, Dallas is allowing the third-highest completion percentage in the league (68.8), the third-highest yardage per pass attempt (7.7), and the third-highest yards allowed per completion (11.2).

Do we need to dive in even further? I don't think so. At this point, we've beaten the dead horse on Eberflus. It's going to continue to be a hot topic until he is fired (which, again, is happening).

No, seriously. It has to happen.

Can you imagine the reaction from this fan base if the organization kept Eberflus?

Woof.
