The Dallas Cowboys slim playoff chances came to an end last weekend after the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders. The focus this offseason will likely focus on improving a defense that has struggled with Matt Eberflus at the helm. Team owner Jerry Jones tried to improve it by acquiring Quinnen Williams in a blockbuster trade with the New York Jets.

Depending on what the Cowboys do at the coordinator position at the end of the season, they may have the chance to make another blockbuster.

FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer reported on Friday that Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby left the team facility after they let him know they would sit him out for the remaining two games of the season. This comes after Crosby announced his intent to help the Raiders win in their "loser gets the No. 1 overall pick" game against the New York Giants. Glazer brought up that this instance may "lead to questions" on Crosby's future with the Raiders.

If that is truly the case, the Cowboys better start preparing a trade offer.

Cowboys see chances of Maxx Crosby trade increase after bombshell report

So you're telling us there's a chance? Actually, there very well might be.

It's important to note that this is what Crosby said about the Raiders potentially landing the No. 1 pick with a loss to the Giants on Sunday earlier this week:

"Yeah, I don’t give a sh** about the pick, to be honest," said Crosby, h/t NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "I don't play for that. That's not my job. My job is to be the best defensive end in the world. Being a great leader, being an influence."

Just days later, the Raiders informed Crosby that they planned on shutting him down for the rest of the season. Based on Glazer's reporting, Crosby didn't seem too fond of the idea. Now, there will be non-stop questions about his future with the team. Let's face it, Crosby is a game-changer on defense and would provide an instant boost to any team.

The Cowboys, for their part, tried to acquire Crosby this year. Glazer reported back in October, ahead of the trade deadline, that they reached out to the Raiders about acquiring Crosby, but were told no. Additionally, Crosby let it be known that he did not want to be traded. Based on this new report, one has to wonder if his stance will change. If it does, that opens the door for the Cowboys to potentially make a move for Crosby.

Let's not forget that the Cowboys do have draft picks at their disposal. They hold two first round picks in 2026 thanks in part to the Micah Parsons trade with the Green Bay Packers. It's important to note that they don't have a first-round pick in 2027 due to the Williams trade. Still, one of those 2026 first-round picks could hypothetically help the Cowboys chances of acquiring Crosby.

The 2025 season did not go the way Cowboys fans had hoped. The 2026 season could go better for them, especially if they are able to bring in Crosby to help their pass rush.
