Cowboys' Jerry Jones threw Dak Prescott under the bus during radio meltdown
By Jerry Trotta
It's hard to blame any Dallas Cowboys fans who have Jerry Jones fatigue. While Cowboys fans are normally easily-bothered by Jones, the 82-year-old owner has outdone himself this week in regards to bringing embarrassment to both himself and the franchise.
It was obvious after Sunday's blowout loss that Jones was peeved. However, he caught everyone by surprise when he exploded during his weekly interview with 105.3 The Fan.
Jones took offense to a question about the Cowboys' inactive offseason and responded by both dodging accountability and threatening to have the hosts - Shan Shariff and R.J. Choppy - removed from the station. It's clear Jones expected easy-going questions with Dallas on a bye.
It was an ugly sequence for Jones and he refused to apologize in comments made to The Athletic at the league meetings.
It doesn't get worse than threatening to have someone fired for doing their job, but Jones was in rare form and decided to throw Dak Prescott under the bus - not once but twice - while discussing Dallas' struggles.

During the interview, Jones twice mentioned that Prescott is the highest-paid player in the NFL and that production can't be that low.
Statistically speaking, Jones is right. Even though Prescott is third in passing yards, he's 12th in passing touchdowns, 16th in yards per attempt and has the second-most interceptions. He is also fourth with 10 big-time throws, per Pro Football Focus.
Those numbers aren't indicative of the highest-paid quarterback, but Prescott has played much better than his numbers suggest. He needs to cut down on the turnovers, especially in the red zone, but he has essentially played the role of Superman in the Cowboys' offense.
No team asks their QB to do more than Dallas and Prescott's job is made even harder by Mike McCarthy's unimaginative offense. On top of throwing into tight windows on seemingly every dropback, Prescott doesn't have the benefit of a running game.
The Cowboys are averaging 77.2 rushing yards per game and 3.48 yards per carry. Both figures rank dead-last in the NFL entering Week 7.
We'd venture to say that most Cowboys fans realize Prescott's value, but Jones knows there are droves of folks who will happily scapegoat the QB. By mentioning Dak's contract, Jones is essentially moving the target to someone else.
The Cowboys have a lot of problems right now. Prescott is not one of them. Jerry Jones the general manager is the biggest.
