There have been no shortage of marquee storylines in the build-up to kickoff of Super Bowl 59. Between teams moving on from their respective quarterbacks and wide receivers requesting trades, several major offseason dominos have fallen on Sunday.
With other NFL teams consuming headlines, it was only a matter of time until Jerry Jones left his mark on the frenetic news cycle.
The Dallas Cowboys have not made it to the Super Bowl since their last championship in 1995. That also marked the last time Dallas advanced as far as the NFC Championship Game. They now own the longest NFC title game drought in the conference after Washington booked a ticket with their upset win over the No. 1 seed Lions.
That's Jerry's music.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Cowboys have had "internal discussions" about whether to make Parsons the highest-paid defender in the league or trade him for a "king's ransom." Rapoport noted that there hasn't been any trade talks involving Parsons.
Cowboys fans should not be alarmed by the Micah Parsons trade rumors
Let's make this absolutely clear - Micah Parsons is not getting traded.
Rapoport's report noted that Parsons "hasn't said much of anything" regarding the Cowboys' hire of Brian Schottenheimer as head coach and that Parsons referred to Mike McCarthy's exit as "devastating", hinting at potential unrest with the perennial All-Pro.

However, Parsons has stated repeatedly he wants to get his extension out of the way as early as possible to help Dallas retain key free agents like Jourdan Lewis and Osa Odighizuwa. Parsons has even said he's willing to take a pay cut if it means allowing the front office to surround him with better talent.
There is no story here, folks. This reeks of the attention-craved Jerry Jones giving the media a storyline to chew on during Super Bowl Sunday.
It could also be partially media-driven. All of the major networks have close to 10-hour pregame shows leading up to kickoff. Odds are they did some digging with their Cowboys sources - because it's the Cowboys - and Jones predictably postured.
It would be franchise malpractice to trade a superstar in their prime. Even if Dallas got a king's ransom for Parsons in terms of draft capital, this draft class is not strong for pass rushers. Not to mention, DeMarcus Lawrence, Chauncey Golston and Carl Lawson are free agents. If they trade Parsons they would be left with Sam Williams and Marshawn Kneeland at edge rusher.
Believe what you want, but we are adamant there is no seriousness behind this rumor. Parsons will get a record-setting deal from the Cowboys. It's just a matter of when.
