The Dallas Cowboys organization is grieving the tragic loss of second-year defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, who passed away at the age of 24 on Thursday morning.
Kneeland had just put together the best game of his career on Monday night, recovering a blocked punt for a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals. He had his entire career ahead of him, and it's unbelievably tragic that he only had 24 years to leave his mark.
A second-round pick out of Western Michigan last year, Kneeland had already established himself as a reliable run defender off the edge in just his second season. His fumble-recovery touchdown on Monday offered a glimpse into his untapped potential.

Kneeland's agent, Jonathan Perzley, also released a statement in light of Kneeland's passing.
"I am shattered to confirm that my client and dearest friend Marshawn Kneeland passed away last night,” Perzley said. “I watched him fight his way from a hopeful kid at Western Michigan with a dream to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys. Marshawn poured his heart into every snap, every practice, and every moment on the field. To lose someone with his talent, spirit, and goodness is a pain I can hardly put into words. My heart aches for his family, his teammates, and everyone who loved him, and I hope they feel the support of the entire football community during this unimaginable time. I ask that you please give his loved ones the privacy and compassion they need as they grieve this tremendous loss."
Kneeland had taken on a bigger role this season, playing 164 defensive snaps in seven appearances while amassing seven tackles, one sack, and seven defensive stops.
Teammates and coaches described Kneeland as a joy to be around in the locker room and throughout the facility. Cowboys safety Juanyeh Thomas shared a heartbreaking post on X, underscoring how loved Kneeland was within the team.
It is impossible to process this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kneeland's loved ones.
