Analysts and reporters can't help but rave about the Dallas Cowboys' draft class. The one universal critique, though, is that they failed to add a new wide receiver.

Jerry Jones revealed right after the conclusion of the first round that Tetairoa McMillan would have been the pick at No. 12 if he was there. The Panthers crushed that dream when they took the Arizona pass-catcher No. 8 overall, which caused Dallas to pivot to Alabama guard Tyler Booker.

The Cowboys are reportedly interested in reuniting with Amari Cooper to fill void. While that would be a home-run signing, the uneasiness won't fade until it's official. Given the history of this front office, we would not go writing Cooper's return to Dallas in stone.

After all, Jerry Jones is out here preaching confidence in the likes of Jonathan Mingo and Jalen Tolbert to assume the WR2 role. Fortunately, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is not buying that, especially in regards to Mingo.

Jerry Jones' confidence in Cowboys WR Jonathan Mingo is delusional

Harris went on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas and shared some insight into the team's Cooper interest and overall pursuit of a new wide receiver. Co-host Bobby Belt specifically asked Harris about the chances Dallas rolls into training camp with Mingo as the WR2.

"Yeah I don't think that's gonna happen. At least as far as the people that are pushing behind the doors for this to get addressed - for them to get a No. 2 wide receiver. My question is does it happen before OTAs? Does it happen before mandatory minicamp?"

Harris seems confident that Dallas will add a new receiver before training camp. That doesn't offer a concrete timeline given camp starts in late July, but you have to think they want to get someone in the door soon, especially since the WR market has heated up ever so slightly following the draft.

Just in the last week, Diontae Johnson and Robert Woods have found new homes. Veteran Tyler Lockett reached a deal with the Titans right before the draft. That leaves Cooper and Keenan Allen as the most accomplished WRs left on the market.

It goes without saying, but Cooper is a better fit give his familiarity with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. The five-time Pro Bowler never crossed paths with head coach Brian Schottenheimer, but there is a reason folks inside the building are pushing for a Cooper reunion.

It's never felt like Dallas would entrust Mingo with the WR2 role. Say what you will about how much Jerry Jones cares about winning, but he doesn't want a repeat of last season when the team won seven games. Trotting out Mingo opposite Lamb will not help the winning cause.

It is very reassuring to hear that a plugged in and reliable insider like Harris thinks a move for a receiver is on the horizon.
