The 2026 NFL Draft might be over, but the real fun is just getting started. OK, maybe we have differing definitions of fun, but the rush to sign players who went undrafted is quite entertaining, and the Dallas Cowboys have a strong track record when it comes to signing priority free agents.

The longer Dallas waited to draft a wide receiver, the more likely it became they’d address the position in undrafted free agency. They ultimately took East Carolina receiver Anthony Smith with their final pick at No. 217, but that didn’t stop them from making a splash immediately after the draft.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Cowboys have agreed to terms with SMU receiver Jordan Hudson. This pairing felt written in the stars for months.

A Garland High School grad, Hudson grew up a Cowboys fan and had two separate dinners with the team following his pro day in March.

Nothing like a feel-good story to put a bow on the 2026 NFL Draft.

The local standout opened his college career at TCU before transferring to SMU, where he spent his final three seasons. An elbow injury caused Hudson to miss three games in his final season for the Mustangs, but he still finished the year with 61 catches for 766 yards and six touchdowns en route to being a third-team All-ACC selection.

Hudson faces long odds to make Dallas' 53-man roster, but as of this writing, the WR4 role is up for grabs behind CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and Ryan Flournoy.

The Cowboys lost Jalen Tolbert in free agency, and KaVontae Turpin didn't make the most of his opportunities as a pass-catcher last season. A lot of Turpin's touches felt forced, so the fanbase wouldn't be devastated if his role on offense got diminished.

Jonathan Mingo is the de facto favorite to win the job, but Brian Schottenheimer's first year as head coach proved that players must earn their roles. Mingo has a lot of hungry receivers behind him, and you can now throw Hudson into that mix alongside Traeshon Holden, Anthony Smith, and Parris Campbell.

With local ties, Hudson will only need a handful of plays in training camp before Cowboys fans are all in. He has Oxnard darling written all over him.
