Cowboys have dream trade-down draft target after electrifying Pro Day

America's Team could pick up an extra pick or two and still get a quality player if they're willing to trade back a few picks in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

With the 2025 NFL Draft less than a month away, fans of the Dallas Cowboys are wondering what America's Team will do with the 12th overall pick, which worked out rather well for them the last time they had it, selecting Micah Parsons in 2020.

At this point, it seems most are wanting the Cowboys to go the offensive route with the pick. And we're not talking trenches here, as Jerry Jones has used the franchise's first-rounder on an offensive lineman twice in the last three drafts, taking Tyler Smith (No. 24) in 2022 and Tyler Guyton (No. 29) a year ago.

No, Dallas fans are looking for a skill position player this time around.

While the Cowboys added running backs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency to replace the departed Rico Dowdle, many are still hoping Jones will roll the dice on Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty, who rushed for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns this past year for Boise State.

Others are wishing for a star wide receiver to play opposite CeeDee Lamb, a popular prospect being Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, who caught 213 passes for 3,423 yards and 26 touchdowns for the Wildcats over the last three years.

While both are fantastic options, there's no getting around the fact that the Cowboys need defensive help as well. And if Jones is willing to part ways with the 12th selection, Dallas could conceivably get one of the best pass rushers in this draft and an extra pick or two to boot.

Marshall's Mike Green could be a solid addition to the Dallas Cowboys' defense

The player in question here is Marshall edge rusher Mike Green, who led the nation this past season with 17.0 sacks, helping the Thundering Herd to their first-ever conference title while also winning Sun Belt Player of the Year and earning First-Team All-American honors.

The Virginia native is extremely explosive off the line and can get to the quarterback as well as anyone in this draft class while also being effective against the run.

Already a strong prospect, Green upped his stock even further with an impressive Pro Day, running the three-cone drill in a ridiculous 6.85 seconds, which is reportedly the ninth-fastest time of any edge rusher since 1999. He also posted a 4.25-second run in the short shuttle, which is well above average.

The big issue some seem to have with Green is his size, as his 6-foot-3, 251-pound frame is obviously considered small for his position at the professional level.

Then, of course, there are the sexual assault allegations that were made against him in the past. No charges were ever brought, and he continues to vehemently deny any wrongdoing. Still, though, any team that drafts him obviously has to be comfortable enough with the situation.

As for where Green is projected to be drafted, most pundits have him going in the late teens or even into the 20s.

As such, if the Cowboys are genuinely interested, they could likely trade back several spots and still nab him while also adding another pick or two. Given the immense talent at the top of this year's class, several teams could be willing to give up quite a bit to get to No. 12.

While Dallas brought back Dante Fowler Jr. to play the edge opposite Parsons, Green would likely still see considerable snaps as a rookie. And he could also slide in at linebacker when necessary, as he has plenty of experience in that role as well.

We'll find out soon enough what the Cowboys decide to do, as the draft is set to begin on April 24 in Green Bay.
