Cowboys have distanced themselves from Maxx Crosby (but it's not over yet)

It may not be worth it to go all out for Maxx Crosby.

The Dallas Cowboys have needed a premier pass rusher ever since trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers on the eve of the 2025 season.

With the inability to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks, the defense faltered, and it proved to haunt Jerry Jones and upper management as Dallas went on to miss the postseason. So, it makes sense why the Cowboys are interested in Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby.

Any general manager with a brain would want Crosby, but the Raiders are driving a hard bargain, and multiple teams, including the Chicago Bears, smell blood in the water.

According to Jane Slater of NFL Network, the Cowboys are not willing to offer two first-round picks for Crosby. This followed a revealing report from longtime NFL personality Trey Wingo.

"Things are moving fast re Maxx Crosby. Last night Dallas thought they were close to a deal, but since then other teams have raised the ante and potentially are offering the Raiders 2 1st round picks Expected Dallas to now shift their focus to Trey Hendrickson," Wingo posted on X.

The Dallas Cowboys seemingly won't trade for Maxx Crosby if it requires two first-round picks

The Raiders are asking for two firsts, and while Dallas has that package, there are too many other holes that need filling. This means backing out and looking at other options.

Slater thinks the Cowboys would part with one of their 2026 first-round picks, but two is asking a lot for a team that must address cornerback, linebacker, and safety in addition to edge rusher.

The question now is which team Wingo referred to is willing to offer two firsts. If that's the case, then why isn't a deal done already? Interested clubs may be calling the Raiders' bluff, hoping that they'll lower the asking price once they realize two firsts is a ridiculous ask.

After all, Crosby is on a similar tier as Quinnen Williams, whom Dallas acquired at the 2025 trade deadline for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and Mazi Smith. While edge rusher is a more "valuable" position relative to defensive tackle, they have a similar impact from down to down.

We speak for all Dallas fans who would love to have Maxx Crosby, but considering the state of the franchise, surrendering two first-round picks for Crosby would not be smart business. If it takes one first, that's a different story, but the Cowboys aren't being cheap by not wanting to cough up a second first.
