Say what you will about the Dallas Cowboys not taking a receiver. They hit an absolute home run in the NFL Draft. They got solid value across the board and added new running backs for Dak Prescott in Texas' Jaydon Blue and Clemson's Phil Mafah.
Running back is trending to be the most compelling position battle this offseason. Between, Blue, Mafah and veteran additions Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, it stands to reason that Dallas will only keep three of them. While at the bottom of the totem pole, Deuce Vaughn is still in the mix as well.
While Blue and Mafah bring a lot of excitement, this backfield has a lot of room for improvement. Assuming the Cowboys are still looking to get better, longtime Browns star Nick Chubb is a free agent and he is out to prove his health following a significant knee injury.
Cowboys need to move fast to sign Nick Chubb after NFL Draft
Chubbing moving insane levels of weight does not mean he will look the same on the field. At the same time, moving the weight is dependent on the strength of Chubb's knee. Looks pretty strong from our vantage point.
In most cases, the Cowboys shouldn't give a second thought to signing a near-30-year-old running back who's had multiple significant knee injuries and has over 1,300 career carries. But Chubb is a rare player you make an exception for.

Don't read too deep into his numbers last season. The 3.3 yards per carry sticks out, but he was running behind a decimated Browns offensive line. Cleveland also had arguably the worst quarterback play of any team. Opposing defenses stacked the box. Teams knew the Browns were going to lean on Chubb and they still fed him the rock.
That isn't to say Chubb is as good as he was four or five years ago, but he'd instantly upgrade the Cowboys' backfield. You couldn't name a better mentor for Blue and Mafah if you tried.
Brian Schottenheimer has made it a point to target good players, but also consummate professionals, seemingly to fortify the locker room. Chubb checks every box in that regard. He carries a great attitude and work ethic (see the above video) and is a great teammate.
The Cowboys shouldn't have any problem cutting ties with Williams or Sanders to make room for Chubb. He is clearly out to send a message to the Browns, who sent their own message to the franchise great by drafting two running backs.
