Hopefully this never gets beyond the speculation stage.

For as badly as most Dallas Cowboys fans want to see the team keep George Pickens, it's unclear if Jerry Jones will actually listen. Right now, it seems as though Pickens will be franchise tagged once the tag window opens up tomorrow, but there has been some talk of him being tagged and traded.

That report has led to a seismic shift in the Cowboys' offseason plans, which led Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox to consider who may be interested. He listed all of the usual suspects, but then threw a major curveball by suggesting the Green Bay Packers as a team that should try to trade for Pickens.

Cowboys fans should have enough nightmares of sending their star players to Green Bay after seeing how the Micah Parsons deal aged, but this is Jerry Jones we're talking about. If he was lowballed by Brian Gutekunst in blockbuster trade talks once, who's to say Jones won't make that mistake again?

The Dallas Cowboys could repeat history by trading George Pickens to the Packers

Parsons has been trying to recruit Pickens to Green Bay for a while now. They've never played a down together as teammates, but they're clearly friendly since Micah had him on his podcast during Super Bowl week, where he joked about recruiting him to Green Bay.

The Packers could lose 2026 leading receiver Romeo Doubs in free agency, while Jayden Reed and Christian Watson will be free agents after the 2026 season, assuming he doesn't sign an extension. Even though they still have Matthew Golden, their need at WR is clear, so the Georgia product is at least worth pursuing.

They have a bunch of good receivers, but no great ones. Pickens would change that, and catching passes from Jordan Love would be a nightmare for the rest of the NFL, especially the Cowboys.

Dallas cannot afford to lose him to begin with, but trading another one of their stars to Green Bay would really salt the wound. Pickens ignited the offense in 2025, so losing him in any capacity would be a mistake.

The 24-year-old was the perfect complement for CeeDee Lamb, and he had Dak Prescott both had career years, so this front office needs to offer him a lucrative contract extension that will keep him in Dallas for years to come.

The Parsons trade was enough of a disaster that I hope that Jones learned his lesson, but his ego often gets in the way of doing what's best for the franchise. Because of that, the Packers may not have the draft capital to facilitate a Pickens trade, but they may still try their luck.
