Dak Prescott finally got a functional defensive performance in the Dallas Cowboys' thumping of the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. While that was long overdue, the Cowboys' season still hinges on Prescott playing at a Pro Bowl level every week.
Of course, that will require Prescott starting under center the rest of the way. So Cowboys fans' hearts might have skipped a beat on Wednesday when Prescott appeared on the first injury report of the week with a hip ailment.
While alarming and should not be ignored, Brian Schottenheimer said the injury is "nothing major" and that the Cowboys will be cautious with him in practice because of the short week.

There seemingly is no cause for alarm.
Schottenheimer was likely getting out in front of it before Prescott appeared on the Wednesday injury report and sparked unnecessary panic. When a starting quarterback shows up on the report without warning or context, it usually elicits a big reaction. Schottenheimer was simply doing some damage control.
This isn't the first time Prescott has been banged up this season. He had his left hand wrapped following the Cowboys' win over the Commanders in Week 7.

Having said that, Prescott's hip injury will be its own storyline this Sunday against an Eagles defense that's been playing out of its mind since trading for edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and getting some pieces back from injury.
You already know Jalen Carter would love nothing more than to put Prescott on his backside after he got suspended for the Week 1 matchup for spitting on Prescott as Dallas took the field for the game's first possession. That is a petrifying thought by itself, but the Eagles' pass rush as a collective has come to life this month.
Prescott's been more mobile this season than Cowboys fans have seen in years. He only has 117 rushing yards to show for it, but he's actually shown a willingness to take off and run. That largely has not been the case since his ankle injury in 2020.
It'll be interesting to see how the injury impacts Prescott's mobility, if at all. It stands to reason that Prescott will have to abandon the pocket more than once against Philly. The 32-year-old has some of the best footwork and awareness of any QB, but Cowboys fans will be wincing bigger than usual the first time he gets hit on Sunday.
