After what's been a busy offseason, the smoke has cleared a bit more on the Dallas Cowboys this season. As Day 1 of mandatory minicamp underway, Brian Schottenheimer reported a perfect attendance, including Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs being present.
With still some missing pieces, especially defensively, the question is if Jerry Jones will make one final splash. Speaking of, Jaire Alexander's release from the Packers sets up a golden opportunity for Jones to remedy the Cowboys' biggest weakness.
While Alexander has been linked to Dallas, he is also being floated around with none other than the Philadelphia Eagles.
Eagles stealing Jaire Alexander would be a Cowboys nightmare
With the loss of Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers, Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report has Philadelphia as his No. 1 destination for Alexander for a veteran presence. Love it or hate it, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been a roster-building machine throughout his tenure, and with his resume, he's definitely the guy to come marching in at the perfect time.
"It's a classic Howie Roseman move—wait for a veteran in an area of need to be released, and then swoop him and sign him to a relatively reasonable short-term deal."Gary Davenport
Roseman has brought tons of magic pieces to Philly. Between Saquon Barkley, who made a bunch of house calls had arguably his best season yet in 2024, and A.J. Brown, who was traded for peanuts, has hit the 1,000-yard mark in each of his three seasons with Philly. Cooper DeJean, who fell to the second-round of the draft for whatever reason, got a pick-six in the Super Bowl.

Alexander would be Roseman's latest display of plugging in a hole for the defending champs. This would not just be agonizing for the Cowboys, but especially to Dak Prescott.
As nightmares remain of Alexander intercepting Prescott over the years, it could come back to haunt the 32-year-old quarterback given Dallas and Philly play each other twice every year.
Since the Cowboys have pretty big questions at cornerback, it'd be great to see Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowler suit up for America's team. However, if Roseman smells blood and pounces, it could be the gut punch that absolutely halts all the momentum following Dallas right now.
