Cowboys draft pick dodges disaster after Dallas misses out on Jaire Alexander

A silver lining worth holding on to.

Jaire Alexander's injury history made him a questionable fit with a Dallas Cowboys secondary that is already navigating multiple injuries. That said, Alexander is an elite cornerback when healthy and all signs pointed him to signing an affordable deal given his recent struggles to stay on the field.

Sure enough, Alexander signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Ravens. The contract carries a maximum value of $6 million. He reportedly took less money to reunite with Lamar Jackson, who was his college teammate at Louisville, but Dallas should have been involved.

If it's any consolation, though, rookie cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. did NOT suffer a setback amid his knee rehab, according to Bryan Broaddus of 105.3 The Fan.

"I sent a screenshot (of the Revel report) to somebody in the organization and I said 'Hey, is there any legs to this?' and this guy said 'It's absolutely not true at all,'" Broaddus said on the Love of the Star podcast.

Cowboys rookie Shavon Revel Jr. reportedly did not suffer setback amid ACL rehab

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated sounded Cowboys fans' alarms when he disclosed that Revel suffered a setback. Breer did not reveal details of the setback, however. Based on his tone, he may have been referring to something that happened earlier in Revel's recovery before the draft.

Still, it is easy to understand why Breer's report rocked the fan base. The Cowboys already have question marks at CB and Revel is coming off a torn ACL suffered last September. Fortunately, Broaddus is hearing that Revel's recovery is right on schedule.

"As a matter of fact, he (the source) goes 'I know for a fact that Revel has worked this week, is going to run again tomorrow and work' so yeah it's not true," Broaddus added.

Furthermore, Broaddus found that the team is thrilled with Revel's progress and how he's attacked rehab. It sounds like the Cowboys have dodged a bullet. While a relief, it isn't all that surprising.

Revel revealed after the draft that his goal was to be cleared before training camp. The ECU product was also on the field during rookie camp, OTAs and mandatory minicamp. Granted, he was off to the side with the rehab group, but would he be involved in any capacity if he suffered a setback?

It remains to be seen if Revel will be on the field when Dallas takes the field in Oxnard, but concerns about a potential setback have been debunked. That is huge news.

With Trevon Diggs expected to miss the start of the regular season, a lot will be asked of Revel in his rookie year.
