The Minnesota Vikings have one of the league’s top wide receiver duos with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.
But with Addison serving a three-game suspension to start the year and Jefferson dealing with a hamstring injury, the Vikings are in need of wide receiver help. They also have several injuries to down roster receivers, which puts them in the market for a veteran receiver to help out early in the year.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Vikings are in the market for a receiver and have been exploring the trade market. And the Dallas Cowboys might be the perfect fit, as they have plenty of depth they could spare. Especially after what we've seen from some of the depth receivers on the roster throughout the preseason.
Cowboys' Jalen Tolbert could be the perfect trade target for the Vikings
The Cowboys have a clear top-two on the depth chart at receiver, and the hope is that CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens will be the league’s best duo. And it seems pretty obvious coming out of camp that KaVontae Turpin will be the team’s de facto No. 3 receiver.
And that leaves Jalen Tolbert, who was the No. 2 last year, down the roster and competing for snaps as the No. 4 receiver. Tolbert had a career year in 2024, catching 49 passes for 610 yards and seven touchdowns.
But before the Jonathan Mingo injury, it was unclear if Tolbert would even make the roster due to the overall depth that has been added this offseason. However, Tolbert's roster spot is now secure, considering Mingo could be placed on the injured reserve list to open the season with a PCL injury suffered in Saturday's preseason loss to the Ravens.

The Cowboys have other receivers who they are enthralled with, including Ryan Flournoy and Jalen Brooks. Both players were on the 53-man roster last season and can play on special teams, but it really feels like both players have taken steps forward in 2025. And then there is Traeshon Holden, an undrafted free agent receiver for Oregon, who has impressed the coaching staff every step of the way.
Tolbert would make sense for Minnesota as he can play all three receiver spots and does have quite a bit of experience. He wouldn’t cost a lot to acquire, and he could fit in well with Jefferson and Addison once they return to the lineup. Tolbert isn't the flashiest receiver, but he would fit in Kevin O'Connell's offense well as a No. 3 receiver.
The Cowboys like Tolbert and feel like he can be a strong complement to Lamb and Pickens, but he is entering the final year of his contract, and it’s unlikely that he will return in 2026. If Dallas could receive a pick or even better, a defensive tackle to improve the run defense, it might be worth talking to the Vikings about a potential swap.
