Like several other NFL teams, the Dallas Cowboys are exploring the possibility of trading for Las Vegas Raiders defender Maxx Crosby. The veteran defender is one of the best players in the NFL, so he has naturally emerged as the talk of the offseason once it became clear that he could be on the move.

Crosby would be the perfect addition for a Cowboys defense that needs all the help it could get, but Dallas may not be able to win the bidding war for the five-time Pro Bowler.

While he should remain priority No. 1 for Jerry Jones, the franchise now has a backup option it can pursue if it misses out on Crosby. That backup option is veteran pass rusher Cam Jordan, who will reportedly enter free agency for the first time in his career this offseason.

Cam Jordan could emerge as a free agency option for the Dallas Cowboys

Jordan has played his entire 15-year career with the New Orleans Saints, but he isn’t expected to reach a new deal with New Orleans before the start of free agency on March 11. With the veteran defender already committed to playing in 2026, he will explore and find out if he’ll finally add another jersey to his closet.

A Cowboys jersey should definitely be a possibility.

While Jordan isn’t going to generate the excitement that Crosby would, especially with him turning 37 in July, he’s still a productive defender this late in his career.

Last season, Jordan played in all 17 games and recorded 10.5 sacks, 47 total tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, and 15 quarterback hits. That was the most sacks he recorded in a season since 2021, and he did it while only playing 54% of New Orleans’ defensive snaps, per Pro Football Focus.

Entering the NFL in 2011, Jordan is an eight-time Pro Bowler and one of the best defensive linemen of the last decade. While he may not be at his peak anymore, he has proven that he can still get after the quarterback, so he should get an opportunity to do that for a 16th season.

Unless Jordan is asking for an unreasonable contract, the Cowboys don’t have much to lose by adding him. Even at 36, Cam Jordan is a double-digit sack guy, so Dallas should explore adding him if they can’t get Maxx Crosby.
