The full NFL schedule will be released on May 14 at 8 PM ET on NFL Network, but we already know two of dates and times for the biggest games of the year for the Dallas Cowboys.

Earlier this week, the NFL announced that the Cowboys would play in the season’s kickoff game against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football.

And on Wednesday morning, the league announced that the Cowboys will host the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving Day. Considering the Chiefs have made the Super Bowl in each of the last three seasons, this figures to be the most-watched game of the NFL season or close to it.

Cowboys to host Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Thanksgiving

The Cowboys have played against Patrick Mahomes just once during his NFL career, losing a 19-9 game in Kansas City back in 2021. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have plenty of experience against Andy Reid due to his days with the Eagles. Dallas is just 13-19 against Reid in their 32 career matchups.

We knew that the Cowboys would host the Chiefs at some point this season, but it’s an interesting strategy by the league to put these two teams on Thanksgiving as those games always drive big ratings. But there is a good chance that Chiefs-Cowboys could set records, providing both teams are competitive.

It’ll also be our first chance to see how Brian Schottenheimer handles the short week, as Mike McCarthy and Jason Garrett both had middling success on Thanksgiving Day. The Cowboys have a franchise record of 33-22-1 on Thanksgiving, but you would expect that record to be better considering all of the games are at home. Dallas should have the advantage, knowing how to play on a short week but that hasn't always been the case.

Can the Cowboys compete against the Chiefs and keep this game close? It’ll likely depend on how well the Cowboys’ offense can play against one of the league’s top defenses. But this is now one of the league’s premier games of the season, and it’s one to circle if you are a Cowboys fan.
