Brandon Aubrey is no stranger to making NFL history, and the two-time All-Pro kicker did so yet again this past Sunday in the Dallas Cowboys' wild Week 2 overtime win against the rival New York Giants. And we're talking multiple occasions here.
In a back-and-forth battle that featured six lead changes during the fourth quarter and the extra frame -that in itself is good for a tie for the most all-time - America's Team found itself down 37-34 in the waning seconds of regulation and called upon Aubrey to attempt a 64-yard field goal to send the game into overtime.
And to the surprise of absolutely nobody, the 30-year-old calmly stepped up and drained it (with room to spare) as the clock hit triple zeroes, thus making him the only kicker ever to record multiple makes of 64 or more yards, his first being a 65-yarder against the Baltimore Ravens a season ago. Justin Tucker (66 yards) and Matt Prater (64 yards) are the only others with one such make. That 65-yarder against Baltimore is a Cowboys record, by the way.
Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey can't stop making NFL history
Aubrey is also now just one of two kickers with four makes of 60-plus yards in a career, the second being none other than the man he replaced, Brett Maher.
In overtime, following Donovan Wilson's interception of Russell Wilson with two minutes remaining, Dallas advanced the ball 42 yards in just three plays, thus setting up Aubrey for a game-winning attempt from 46 yards. And once again, with triple zeroes on the clock, he delivered, thus becoming the first kicker in NFL history to ever connect on a game-tying field goal with no time remaining in the fourth quarter and a game-winning field goal with no time remaining in overtime in the same game.
See, we weren't kidding about multiple marks being set.
Again, though, this is nothing new for Aubrey. In addition to the ones we've already mentioned, here's a quick rundown of the other NFL records he currently owns:
- Most consecutive field goals made to start a career: 36 (2023)
- Most field goals made of 50-plus yards without a miss in a single season: 10 (2023)
