Cowboys 2027 draft pick tracker: Dallas can pull even with Packers on Sunday night

One of the prime games on the Week 6 schedule has the Packers hosting the Cowboys. It's big for many reasons, most of them current but also future implications related to the 2027 Draft. Dallas' owns Green Bay's first-round pick, so Sunday night is a chance to directly improve the value of that prized asset.

Outside of Cowboys and Packers fans, followers of the New York Jets are probably the next most intrigued. A few months after Dallas acquired Green Bay's pick in the Micah Parsons trade, the Cowboys agreed to send the better of its two 2027 first-rounders to the Jets as part of the deal for Quinnen Williams.

Dallas is 2-3 and Green Bay is 3-2 ahead of their Sunday Night Football showdown. It's hard to say who is more likely to finish the year with a better record. And even if it's the Packers, the Cowboys may have a better shot at winning its division. That could affect the draft order beyond just overall records, and which pick ends up going to New York.

Some of those other factors will crystallize more as we get closer to the end of the season. For now, Dallas has a chance to put a dent in the Packers' season while also helping save its own. And if it's a loss that eventually helps keep Green Bay out of the playoffs, that could be the difference between a pick in the 15-18 range versus something toward the end of the round.

As things currently stand, it feels more likely that the Jets are getting the Cowboys' original 2027 pick and we'll be drafting someone with Green Bay's pick. Naturally, then, we want that other pick to be as valuable as possible.

Cowboys fans now have to root for Bucs over Steelers

After what Tampa Bay did to Dallas last week, rooting for them this Sunday may not be easy. But it is practical as they host the Steelers, who owe Dallas their 2027 fourth-round pick.

Even with their head-to-head tiebreaker over the Cowboys, the Bucs are still just 1-4 and don't seem like a threat in the NFC. If Dallas can get itself together and into the wild card race, or especially if it wins the NFC East, we're probably not worried about Tampa later this year.

Therefore, why not root for the Bucs to worsen Pittsburgh's record and potentially improve our pick? It's certainly doable as the Steelers have a very shaky 3-2 record now. They have just a +2 point differential in their five games, and barely scraped by against a banged-up Falcons team.

Granted, Pittsburgh's defense won't be as hospitable as the Cowboys' was last week. But if QB Jaylon Daniels and the Bucs have found confidence from that win, they are perfectly capable of defending home field.

Speaking of the upsets, how about those Jets?

Jets fans are probably rooting against the Cowboys this week for their own draft value purposes, and we can't blame them. The sentiment shouldn't be mutual, though, as they could do us a favor in their road game against the Patriots.

Dallas owns New England's 2027 seventh-round pick thanks to our trade with Houston surrounding OT Nate Thomas. The Texans sent us a seventh that they picked up from the Patriots in a previous deal, and it's New England's fate this year that still drives the value of that pick.

Granted, it's a seventh-rounder, and we won't lose sleep over wherever it eventually falls. But where the Jets finish this year has no bearing on Dallas, so this is a pure case of "something is better than nothing" when it comes to how an outcome benefits the Cowboys.
