The Dallas Cowboys' search for a new defensive coordinator is over. ESPN's Todd Archer has confirmed that the team and Philadelphia Eagles defensive backs coach Christian Parker have agreed to a deal that will make him the next defensive coordinator.

Not only is Parker only 34 years old and highly regarded around the NFL, but there is a strong chance that Jerry Jones had no idea who he was when the search started.

That alone should have Cowboys fans giddy about the hire, but to weaken your biggest rival while fortifying your defense for years to come? That is what dreams are made of. And make no mistake: the Eagles are going to miss Parker a lot.

Star cornerback Cooper DeJean was quick to react to the news on X, posting "Mannnn. They got a great one wouldn’t be the player I am without CP."

Inject that right into our veins, please.

You won’t find a bad review about Parker. He clearly has his work cut out after inheriting the worst Cowboys defense in franchise history, but it felt inevitable that he was going to land a DC job this cycle. Another team would’ve scooped him up if Dallas didn’t act.

While it's always enjoyable to laugh at the Eagles' expense, DeJean's reaction proves that Parker connects with his players. That was missing in Dallas this season.

You never got the feel during the season, even in the few instances that the defense played well, that Matt Eberflus' players wanted to fight for him.

When asked what he was looking for in a DC, Brian Schottenheimer said that he wanted a teacher and communicator, and a defense that can be multiple to create and react to problems. Eberflus came up short in all of those departments, leading many players to point out after the season that they were not put in a position to succeed.

The Cowboys wouldn’t have hired Parker without full confidence in his ability to teach and command buy-in. X’s and O’s matter a lot, but scheme alone won’t save a defense if players don’t believe in the message coming from their leader.

DeJean's reaction proves that Dallas doesn't have to worry about that with Parker.
