Roughly four hours before they took the field for their Sunday Night Football showdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Cowboys were officially eliminated from postseason contention when the Washington Commanders took a 36-33 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
But the Cowboys certainly didn't look like a team with nothing to play for, as they went out and gave a solid all-around effort to take a 26-24 victory, thus knocking the Bucs out of first place in the NFC South.
Dallas was strong in all three phases of the game, and as it happens, one player from each unit — CeeDee Lamb on offense, Micah Parsons on defense, and Brandon Aubrey on special teams — made some sort of history during the victory.
CeeDee Lamb is the first Cowboys player ever with 100 receiving yards in the first half in back-to-back games
A week ago, CeeDee Lamb recorded 105 receiving yards in the first half of the Cowboys' 30-14 win over the Carolina Panthers, ultimately ending his night with nine catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.
On Sunday night against the Bucs, No. 88 got off to another fast start, hauling in six passes from Cooper Rush for 100 yards over the first 30 minutes, including an incredible 52-yarder he had no business catching.
Lamb is now the first player in Cowboys history with at least 100 first-half receiving yards in back-to-back games, which is astounding given the number of elite pass-catchers who've worn a Dallas uniform over the years.
He aggravated the injured right shoulder he's been playing with for weeks now on the 52-yard reception, which limited his availability in the second half. As such, he caught just one more pass for five yards, but that certainly doesn't take away what we did early on.
Micah Parsons became just the sixth player in NFL history with 50 sacks in his first four seasons
With his strip-sack of Baker Mayfield early in the third quarter, Micah Parsons now has exactly 50 for his career, making him just the sixth player since sacks became an official stat in 1982 to reach the number in his first four seasons, joining Reggie White, Derrick Thomas, J.J. Watt, DeMarcus Ware, and Dwight Freeney.
As Sunday marked Parsons' 61st career game, he's tied with three others as the fifth-fastest to reach 50, trailing only White (40), Thomas (57), Myles Garrett (57), and Von Miller (58).
Brandon Aubrey is now the all-time single-season leader in 50-plus-yard field goals
Brandon Aubrey had himself a stellar night as well, making all six of his kicks, going 2-for-2 on extra points and 4-for-4 on field goals.
Three of those field goals were of the 50-plus-yard variety, as the second-year star hit from 58 in the first quarter, 58 again as time expired in the second quarter, and 53 in the third quarter.
With 14 makes of 50-plus yards this year, Aubrey now owns the NFL record for the most 50-yarders in a single season. That said, however, it's a mark he could lose in the next two weeks, as the kicker he surpassed is Ka'imi Fairbairn of the Houston Texans, who's connected on 13 such kicks this season.
