CeeDee Lamb makes Cowboys history in lopsided loss to the Eagles
By Luke Norris
The Dallas Cowboys didn't have a lot to be excited about in their 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.
The offense moved like molasses most of the day, as Cooper Rush threw 2-yard pass after 2-yard pass. He also had trouble hanging onto the football, losing a pair of fumbles. With Rush struggling, Trey Lance got his shot but didn't fare much better in his first regular-season action in more than two years, throwing a late interception to join the turnover club.
And the Dallas defense could do nothing to stop Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and the Eagles' offensive attack, allowing 348 total yards.
With the loss, Dallas dropped to 3-6, and with Dak Prescott seemingly set for season-ending surgery on his injured hamstring, this year is ultimately already over.
All that said, however, Sunday's dreadful defeat did actually include a historic moment, as CeeDee Lamb recorded his 450th career regular-season reception. And as he did so in just his 75th game, he shattered the record for the fastest to reach the mark, which was previously held by another No. 88, Dez Bryant.
CeeDee Lamb became the fastest player in Cowboys history to reach 450 receptions by 19 games
Given the shoulder injury he suffered in last week's loss to the Atlanta Falcons, there were questions on whether Lamb would even suit up this week against the Eagles.
But as the ailment improved as the week rolled along, the three-time Pro Bowler gave it a go. And with a six-yard reception on the Cowboys' third offensive possession, his second catch of the day, Lamb reached 450, knocking Dez Bryant out of the record books. Bryant reached the number in his 94th career regular-season game. Lamb will also be chasing Bryant for the next milestone, as Dez was the fastest to 500 doing so in game No. 105.
Legendary tight end Witten, who is far and away the franchise leader in receptions with 1,215, was the leader before Bryant, recording his 450th catch in his 99th career regular-season game.
Lamb is just the seventh player in Cowboys history to reach 450 receptions, joining Witten, Michael Irvin, Dez Bryant, Drew Pearson, Emmitt Smith, and Tony Hill.
With six catches for 21 yards in the loss to Philadelphia, Lamb now has 554 for his career. And assuming he stays healthy, he's got a legit shot at getting to 500 before the year is over, assuming one of these quarterbacks can get him the football, anyway.
