It's certainly no secret that the Dallas Cowboys have had their fair share of struggles in the early weeks of this 2026 NFL season, and those struggles continued on Sunday night, as America's Team took an embarrassing 23-13 loss in prime time to the rival Green Bay Packers.
A 10-point loss to a good team may not look that bad, but for anyone who watched the game unfold, you know full well that the score is no indication of how that game really played out.
Now, if one were to look at the simple box score, you'd see that CeeDee Lamb had a solid-enough outing, catching nine passes for 70 yards in the loss, thus giving him 48 receptions for the season, which are good for the third-most in the NFL behind only Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Trey McBride, who are tied in the top spot at 49, with his 577 receiving yards also ranking third, trailing only Smith-Njigba's 717 and Chris Olave's 580.
All that said, though, Lamb was targeted by Dak Prescott a whopping 18 times, bringing his season total to a league-leading 69. And when targeting No. 88, Prescott's passer rating was an abysmal 23.8, thanks mostly to the fact that both of his interceptions came on attempts to Lamb.
CeeDee certainly can't be blamed for the first, as Dak just made a terrible decision, but Lamb has to take the hit for the second, as he flat-out fell down before the ball got to him.
But we're not here to dwell on the negative, as the Cowboys have to find a way to move on from a second straight defeat. Instead, we're here to put a positive spin on Sunday, as Lamb made a little franchise history in the loss, as he took over third place on the team's all-time receiving yards list.
CeeDee Lamb surpassed Tony Hill on the Cowboys' all-time receiving yards list
Coming into this 2026 campaign, Lamb had tallied 7,416 receiving yards, the most by any Cowboys player through their first six seasons and the eighth-most among all players in NFL history through that same time stretch.
As such, the former first-round pick came into the season already ranked sixth on the all-time franchise list.
With 44 yards in Week 1 against the New York Giants, the Oklahoma alum moved into the top five, as he surpassed Dez Bryant, who racked up 7,459 yards in his eight-year run in Dallas from 2010 to 2017.
In Week 4, as part of his incredible 17-catch, 189-yard outing against the Houston Texans, Lamb surpassed another famous No. 88, Drew Pearson, who tallied 7,822 yards for the Cowboys from 1973 to 1983.
And on Sunday night, with his ninth and final reception of the night, a 7-yard grab during Dallas' final offensive drive, he upped his career total to 7,993 yards to move past the great Tony Hill, who recorded 7,988 yards for America's Team from 1977 to 1986.
But that'll it be for a while, as the 27-year-old has a ways to go before reaching the other two sitting ahead of him, those being Michael Irvin (11,904) and Jason Witten (12,977). Nevertheless, Lamb reaching this third spot in just 101 regular-season outings is quite the accomplishment.
He'll look to add to his total (and stop the Cowboys' two-game losing streak, of course) when Dallas visits the rival Philadelphia Eagles to close out Week 7 on Monday Night Football.
