Coming off a historic 24-21 comeback victory over the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys didn't have much time to prepare before hosting the three-time defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday at AT&T Stadium.
But despite the quick turnaround, the Cowboys walked away with a 31-28 victory, upping their season-high winning streak to three to get over .500 for the first time all year at 6-5-1, thus keeping themselves in the playoff hunt, and improving their overall record on Thanksgiving Day to 35-22-1, with that .612 winning percentage representing the highest in the NFL of any team to play at least 10 games on the holiday.
In the short turnaround time leading into this Turkey Day matchup, one of the biggest storylines surrounding America's Team involved CeeDee Lamb, more specifically, the several drops he made against the Eagles. Thankfully for Dallas, those drops didn't affect the outcome, but the sixth-year veteran was clearly upset with his performance and promised to do everything in his power not to have those same issues against Kansas City.
And that promise came to pass, as Lamb recorded zero drops in what turned out to be one of his best performances of the year, matching his season high with a game-best 112 yards on seven receptions, including a 15-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter that tied the game at 7-7. And just four plays before that TD grab, the 26-year-old hauled in a 17-yard pass from Dak Prescott that helped him make a little history, as Lamb became just the first Cowboys player ever to reach 7,000 receiving yards in his first six seasons.
CeeDee Lamb is just the 15th player in NFL history to reach 7,000 receiving yards in his first six seasons
Given the long list of legendary pass-catchers who have suited up for the Cowboys over the years, the fact that Lamb is the first in franchise history to reach 7,000 yards in just his sixth season only goes to prove how dominant he's been since the moment Dallas took him with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 draft.
And the fact that he's just the 15th player ever to accomplish this feat only further proves the point. With his 112-yard outing against the Chiefs, Lamb now has 7,083 regular-season receiving yards for his career, good for the 11th-most of any player in their first six seasons.
- Randy Moss: 8,375
- Justin Jefferson: 8, 227
- Torry Holt: 8,156
- Jerry Rice: 7,866
- Calvin Johnson: 7,836
- Julio Jones: 7,610
- DeAndre Hopkins: 7,437
- Mike Evans: 7,260
- A.J. Green: 7,130
- Antonio Brown: 7,093
- CeeDee Lamb: 7,083
- Marvin Harrison: 7,078
- Larry Fitzgerald: 7,067
- A.J. Brown: 7,026
- Sterling Sharpe: 7,015
As you can see, Lamb will soon join the top 10, as he needs just 11 yards in the Cowboys' Week 14 matchup with the Detroit Lions to surpass Antonio Brown.
