If it feels like new Dallas Cowboys safety Caleb Downs already has a 100-percent approval rate, you're not imagining things. He's quickly endeared himself to one of the most passionate fan bases in sports, and his introductory press conference was icing on the cake.

By the sound of it, Downs is eager to get down to business and work with the Cowboys' first-year defensive coordinator, Christian Parker. That alone should create excitement in Dallas. However, the Ohio State standout also wants to soak up everything he can — as quickly as possible.

Downs doesn't want to waste any time. His mind was already on talking strategy with Parker in the first conversation since their partnership became official.

"Where's the playbook at? When can I get it? Just cause I'm about ball, and that's what I’m looking forward to doing," Downs told reporters.

Talk about making yourself at home. Downs is seemingly ready to move past the feeling-out process; he and the Cowboys have had months to do so. His outstanding work ethic and love for football are evident, and among the several reasons Dallas selected him No. 11 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.

While Dallas needs Downs' remarkable on-field talent, they could also desperately use his injection of preparation, leadership, and maturity. He's wise beyond his years and sets a high standard for everyone around him. The two-time unanimous All-American was a team captain for an Ohio State squad that led the nation in total, scoring, and passing defense in 2025.

There appears to be a budding bromance between the fresh faces of the Cowboys' stop unit. Downs is "super excited" to play for Parker, and the feeling is mutual. The latter said the duo will "make each other great."

Iron sharpens iron, as the saying goes. Downs and Parker are ostensibly focused on maximizing their efforts to improve, even if it means challenging one another. There will be ups and downs (pun intended) along the way, but they're striving toward a common goal: fixing the Cowboys' defensive woes.

Across 14 games last season, Downs recorded 68 tackles (five for loss), two interceptions, two pass deflections, two forced fumbles and a sack. He has the all-around skill set and pedigree to be an instant difference-maker for the Cowboys.
