There are plenty of unpredictables in life, and a Jerry Jones offseason is near the top of the list.
Many options are on the table for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2026 NFL Draft. If they want to use their first two picks on some young talent, nobody would bat an eye. But we all know they need massive help on defense, and a future Hall of Fame pass rusher would make all the difference.
Fox Sports analyst and former Super Bowl champion, Willie Colon, created shockwaves during a recent appearance on FS1's First Things First when he suggested that the Cowboys should trade for Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, who just set the NFL's single-season record with 23 sacks for the Cleveland Browns.
"If I'm the Cowboys, you sell your soul, and you go get Myles Garrett," Colon said. "You figure out how you can trade for Myles Garrett...You put him on this defensive line, on this team, the Cowboys are legit a playoff team."
The Dallas Cowboys should at least call the Browns about a Myles Garrett trade
Jones’ philosophy is already clear: he wants to stop the run. He proved that last season by pulling off one of the NFL’s best moves when he traded for Quinnen Williams before the deadline. Colon added that pairing Williams, Kenny Clark and Osa Odighizuwa with Garrett would be a cheat code.
Who would say no to that? The only real obstacle is the salary cap. Dallas is projected to be at least $30 million over the limit, per Over The Cap, but this front office could clear upwards of $90 million in space with a few restructures if it really wanted to. If Jones truly wants to bust the budget for a future Hall of Famer like Garrett, it’s absolutely doable.
Who would say no to that? The only issue is that the Cowboys are projected to be $30 million over the cap. However, they could instantly free up $94 million in cap space if they wanted. If Jones wants to bust the budget and get a future Hall of Fame player like Garrett, he could make the money work.
The two 2026 first-round picks, a 2027 selection, and a current player could form a compelling package for Garrett. Dallas needs to move on from several defenders anyway, so why not include one in the deal?
Cowboys fans obviously still miss Micah Parsons, but his relationship with the organization was shaky at best. Jones and Parsons traded subtle shots throughout the season, and it grew tiresome. A move like this would be a clean way to close that book and reset the franchise’s direction.
Raiders All-Pro pass rusher Maxx Crosby has dominated the Cowboys' speculation mill for months, but the only scenario more enticing is Garrett returning to his old stomping grounds in Arlington to chase a Super Bowl.
