The Dallas Cowboys are searching for a new head coach for the 2025 season and for those thinking that maybe that coach could be Bill Belichick, you might want to store those hopes away for good.
Belichick, who spent the 2024 season away from coaching, made his final appearance on the ManningCast during the Rams-Vikings playoff game and seemingly made it clear where his allegiances lie for the upcoming season.
Not only did Belichick don a shirt with the North Carolina Tar Heels logo on it, but the Manning brothers made sure to wish him luck at his new job and make jokes about Belichick needing to wear a cutoff hoodie during his first game with the Tar Heels.
If Belichick wanted to leave UNC for the Cowboys' job or any other head coach opening in the NFL, it doesn't feel like he'd be wearing a North Carolina shirt and allowing the Manning brothers to discuss his future job so much.
Bill Belichick was all about UNC during final ManningCast appearance
The Cowboys and Mike McCarthy failed to agree on a new contract, leaving their head coaching position vacant for the time being. Some reports claim McCarthy and Dallas couldn't agree on a length of a contract, while others believe Jerry Jones didn't even submit an offer.
Given Belichick's distinguished resume and strong relationship with Jerry Jones, he was once considered a real option to be Dallas' next head coach. That idea seemed to be crushed once he bolted for Chapel Hill.

Then, however, a rumor popped up that Belichick would have been interested in the Cowboys' job had he known the position would be available. Maybe the dream isn't dead after all?
Belichick's contract at UNC includes a $10 million buyout if he were to leave before June of this year. While he obviously has enough money to buy himself out of the contract, no one would fault him for wanting the team luring him away to foot the bill of the buyout. If Jerry Jones wants Belichick, he'd have the money to buy the legendary head coach out of his UNC contract.
That being said, it doesn't appear as though Belichick plans to relocate from Chapel Hill. At least not in 2025. Not only did the shirt send a subtle message, but the comments the Manning brothers dropped throughout the rest of the appearance continued to hint that Belichick is content at UNC.
It might be time to stop dreaming about Belichick on the Cowboys sidelines.
