Announcers and referees for 49ers vs. Cowboys on Sunday Night Football
By Jerry Trotta
Even though the San Francisco 49ers are the most injured team in the NFL, the football world is fully expecting them to beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. Not only is Dallas extremely banged up, but the 49ers have thoroughly dominated this rivalry in the Dak Prescott era.
With that said, recent history means nothing in this matchup.
While Levi's Stadium will be rocking, the Cowboys are undefeated on the road this season. Normally dominant in front of their home fans, Dallas has actually played its best games away from AT&T Stadium. Their wins over the Browns, Giants and Steelers all featured complementary football
Cowboys fans will be hoping for more of the same Sunday night as this is a huge game in the NFC playoff picture. Let's get into who will be announcing and refereeing this primetime showdown.
Announcers for Cowboys vs. 49ers
- Network: NBC
- Play-by-play: Mike Tirico
- Color commentary: Cris Collinsworth
- Sideline reporter: Melissa Stark
Has anyone stopped to think that Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady are a Cowboys jinx? While Dallas defeated the Browns in Week 1 with FOX's A-team on the call, they are 0-3 with Burkhardt and Brady on the call since. All three losses were blowouts. Something to think about.
All jokes aside, the great Mike Tirico will have play-by-play analysis Sunday night. Tirico has injected new life into the SNF broadcast. Former NFL receiver Cris Collinsworth will be the color analyst. Reporter Melissa Stark will provide live updates from the sideline throughout the game.
Referees for Cowboys vs. 49ers
Officiating is already a hot button topic this week after Thursday night's crew missed a blatant facemask on Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold, who was sacked in the end zone to effectively end the game. It is arguably the worst call of the NFL season to date, which says a lot.
Fortunately, one of the best refs in the business will call Cowboys vs. 49ers: Bill Vinovich, who has called three Super Bowls.
Of course, no referee is perfect. Remember the 2018 NFC Championship Game when Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman leveled Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis near the end of regulation? No flag was thrown, but the league admitted afterward that Robey-Coleman should have been penalized for defensive pass interference and a helmet-to-helmet hit.
Had the call been made, the Saints likely would've went on to the Super Bowl. But the Rams won the game in overtime.
That was five years ago, though. Here is the rest of the crew that will be calling Cowboys vs. 49ers alongside Vinovich:
- Umpire: Scott Walker
- Down Judge: Dale Keller
- Line Judge: Trip Sutter
- Side Judge: Jimmy Buchanan
- Field Judge: Aaron Santi
- Back Judge: Todd Prukop
