The Dallas Cowboys just gave away a game that they should have won. And now, they will have to find a way to steal a game somewhere on their schedule. Sitting at 1-2, Dallas is in a tough spot as they are set to travel to Houston to take on the 0-3 Texans next week.
But before we get to that game, let’s take a look back at the disastrous Week 3 matchup between the Cowboys and the Ravens and highlight Dallas' biggest winners and losers.
Biggest winners and losers from Cowboys' Week 3 loss
Winner: Dak Prescott, QB
It wasn’t a perfect outing for Prescott, but the offense continues to hum along. Dallas scored 31 points, and it easily could have been 40 if it weren’t for some turnovers and miscues, including a blocked kick.
Prescott was able to make so many key plays, especially on third down, to give the Cowboys a chance to win this game. That included leading a 97-yard drive early in the fourth quarter to give the Cowboys a 28-14 advantage. He played a lot better than his stat line.
Unfortunately, the team wasn't able to make that final play to ultimately get the win.
Winner: CeeDee Lamb, WR
One of the biggest storylines through the first three weeks is the emergence of a healthy CeeDee Lamb. After back-to-back big games, Lamb was fantastic in Week 3.
Despite playing against two really good cornerbacks, Lamb caught seven of eight targets for 112 yards, and he drew a big pass interference on their final drive. It’s pretty clear that he’s the best receiver on this team and is well on his way to another All-Pro season.
Winner: Jaishawn Barham, LB
There aren’t many positives to take way from the defense for the Cowboys, but one is certainly the development of Jaishawn Barham.
In his second career start, Barham made several plays behind the line of scrimmage, including two stops on fourth down on Derrick Henry. In the fourth quarter, Barham was the reason Dallas stonewalled Henry at the goal line on 4th-and-goal.
The third-round pick finished the game with seven tackles and still needs work in coverage, but there is no doubt that he is a playmaker and already one of the best players on the defense.
Loser: Brian Schottenheimer, HC
At some point, you need your head coach to prove that he knows how to win games. And to date, there is no evidence to show that Schottenheimer knows how to coach in close games.
There were several mistakes by Schottenheimer late in this game, including playcalling at the goal line, the touchback after the field goal, and seemingly instructing Dak Prescott to throw the ball away on 3rd-and-goal with seconds left in regulation.
Schottenheimer is now 8-11-1 in his 19 games as a head coach, and very few of them have been close wins. This was a very winnable game, and the coaching staff made sure that it didn’t happen.
Loser: Markquese Bell, FS
We can’t be too hard on Bell considering he is the fifth safety on the roster, but he had a day to forget.
Bell had multiple pass interferences on top of multiple missed tackles. His pass interference call at the goal line was a big one, as it allowed the Ravens to use more time off the clock before eventually scoring the go-ahead touchdown.
But due to the injuries to Jalen Thompson, Malik Hooker, and P.J. Locke, Bell will probably get more opportunities in the upcoming games.
Loser: The Cowboys Defense
Did the Cowboys get a few stops on Sunday? Sure, but giving up 34 points, including a FG with seven seconds left, is not exactly a banner day at the office.
In fairness, Dallas did have a lot of injuries on the defensive side of the ball, but this was another week in which the defense was shredded. At this point, we shouldn't expect anything to change,and the Cowboys are going to have to win games despite their defense.
Through three games, nothing has changed from last season.
