The Dallas Cowboys got back in the win column on Monday Night Football against the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles. After heavy criticism was leveled at virtually everyone under the roof at The Star, Dallas took care of business with a 38-21 victory.
A lot of players and the coaching staff were challenged this week, even though they were facing a depleted Eagles team. This roster is loaded with talent, but the star players are the ones who need to step up under the bright lights of a primetime game like this.
These three players delivered when the Cowboys needed them to against Philadelphia.
3 Cowboys who stepped up in a big way against the Eagles
1. Dak Prescott - QB
Dak Prescott continued his yearly success against the Eagles. When he plays Philadelphia, his level of play always seems to go up a notch, and on Monday, he delivered with 212 yards and three touchdown passes. Most importantly, he took care of the football.
After his worst performance of the year so far in Green Bay last week, criticism came roaring down on Prescott and the offense. Facing an Eagles team without Jalen Hurts and several other key players, this game was meant for Dallas to take. Prescott took advantage when the defense made stops.
He also had some of the best ball placement on all three of his touchdowns. The first one to CeeDee Lamb and the one later to George Pickens were among the best throws he has made all year. It might have been a down Eagles team, but still Prescott looked like a top quarterback in the league again.
2. Javonte Williams - RB
One of the reasons Prescott had a lot of success was that the running game provided balance all night. Credit to Brian Schottenheimer for making an adjustment. Javonte Williams had a career day with 155 yards on a whopping 25 carries, providing a huge boost for the offense.
Dallas also found plenty of success between the tackles thanks to their offensive line play. Every time Williams carried the ball, it seemed like he was getting to the second level with ease. Averaging 6.2 yards per carry will always help an offense and take pressure off the quarterback.
Williams signed a new contract in the offseason after a standout first year in Dallas. Before Monday, he struggled to get close to 100 yards. Many wondered if the Cowboys were too quick to lock in a long-term solution at running back. He put those questions to rest and stepped up in a major way.
3. DeMarvion Overshown - LB
DeMarvion Overshown's first game back from a hamstring injury was one of the best of his career. Overshown is a difference-maker when he is on the field, but for the majority of his career, he has not been available. With no Dee Winters, Overshown had to take over as the main linebacker.
He was flying to the football all night and made several key tackles on 3rd downs. That has been one of the Achilles' heels of this defense all season: not getting off the field when it matters. Overshown even swatted down a Tanner McKee pass at the line in this ballgame.
His biggest highlight of the night came when he snagged his first interception since 2024. Up by 10, Dallas needed to flip the script on letting Philly have long drives down the field. Overshown stepped up huge for this defense in his first game back with an interception that put the game out of reach.
Hopefully he can continue to stay healthy.
