3 Cowboys we wish were selected for jury duty instead of Brandon Aubrey

Really? Brandon Aubrey of all people!

The Dallas Cowboys released their first injury report for Week 8 on Wednesday. While Micah Parsons being a DNP should have been the biggest takeaway, it was quickly revealed that star kicker Brandon Aubrey did not practice because he was selected for jury duty.

Fortunately, Brandon Aubrey will play for the Cowboys Sunday night in Week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers. According to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Aubrey insisted on fulfilling his jury duty on Wednesday and the judge of the case will work around his football schedule.

There isn't a clear timetable of how long the case will last, but there is seemingly no concern over Aubrey's availability for Sunday. That is a huge relief as Aubrey has arguably been the Cowboys' best player this season.

That normally isn't the case with kickers, but Aubrey is simply that good ... and Dallas' offense has simply been that poor. It's very fitting that the Cowboys' best player was selected for jury duty. Just think about all of the underperforming players who could've been chosen instead.

3. Andrew Booth, CB

Cowboys fans do not want to see Booth take the field again this season. That may be out of Dallas' control if DaRon Bland misses another week with his foot injury. Bland was a DNP on Wednesday after he experienced soreness last week following a return to practice.

Acquired in a trade with the Vikings during preseason, Booth started for the injured Caelen Carson back in Week 4 and was an utter disaster. He allowed four catches (on as many targets) for 85 yards with a 118.8 passer rating to boot, per Pro Football Focus.

Booth rode the bench in Week 5 and only played 11 snaps in Week 6. He will only play out of necessity going forward, but Cowboys fans would not fuss if he was selected for jury duty instead of Aubrey.

2. Donovan Wilson, S

There are a lot of things wrong with the Cowboys' defense. Between injuries, no pass rush and lackluster play from the interior defensive line, Mike Zimmer has his work cut out to get the defense back on track. However, Wilson has been an extreme letdown this season.

Wilson's physicality defending the run and ability to rush the passer have always trumped his limitations in coverage. This season, Wilson hasn't done much of anything well. On top of allowing a 118.4 passer rating, he has just two pressures and six missed tackles, which is third-most on the team, per PFF.

The hard-hitting safety was expected to be one of the chief beneficiaries of Zimmer's arrival as defensive coordinator. That has not manifested itself. His potential absence due to jury duty would open the door for Juanyeh Thomas and Markquese Bell to get more snaps at safety.

1. Ezekiel Elliott, RB

Elliott's fall from grace has been a hard watch, but the Cowboys have nobody to blame but themselves for bringing him back. He's one of the best running backs in franchise history, but at this point he is just eating into Rico Dowdle's workload. Dowdle is clearly the best back on the roster.

Not only does Elliott's 59.2 PFF rushing grade rank 49th out of 55 qualified running backs, but he's second-to-last in yards per carry (3.2) and missed tackles forced (two).

Elliott still has value as a short-yardage back, but he has no business having a role in the Cowboys' bottom-barrel rushing attack. The fan base would not hate if jury duty prevented Elliott from suiting up Sunday night against the 49ers.
