5 players the Cowboys need to avoid in the 2023 NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
3. Andrew Vorhees, OL, USC
One prospect who endeared himself to fans during the Combine in Indianapolis was Andrew Vorhees. The USC offensive lineman tore his ACL during the drills but didn’t let that end his week. Instead, he went on and put up 38 reps in the bench press.
That’s dedication and shows that he won’t let adversity get in his way. But it doesn’t mean the Cowboys should draft him.
Vorhees does play a position of need, with Dallas needing to replace Connor McGovern at left guard. However, Vorhees is already going to be 24 years old after spending five seasons with the Trojans. That might not be a deal-breaker for an offensive lineman but throw in the fact that he tore his ACL in February and he’s not likely to see the field at all as a rookie.
That means he’s practically going to be 25 by the time he first gets meaningful reps. Again, he’s shown he has the mindset to make it but the Cowboys have already dealt with far too many injuries on the offensive line to roll the dice at all.
Tyron Smith has yet to play a full season since 2015 and Terence Steele is also coming off a season-ending injury. They need to make sure any linemen they add can help this year.
