Will not miss: Carlos Watkins

The Cowboys hoped to re-sign Watkins after they agreed to terms with Jonathan Hankins. That dream was short-lived, however, as Watkins signed with the Cardinals — seemingly in search of more playing time — not long after the Hankins deal was made official.

Watkins was overshadowed on Dan Quinn’s defense, but he emerged as a crucial member of the defensive line rotation by the end of the season. The void at defensive tackle isn’t as substantial with Hankins returning, but it’s still the weakest position on the roster as we sit here two weeks away from the draft.

Remember, Neville Gallimore and Quinton Bohanna were both healthy scratches for the playoff win against the Buccaneers.

Watkins logged 18 snaps in the game, and produced 26 tackles, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble, six pressures and nine defensive stops for the season as a part-time player (12 games, 4 starts).

You could argue both sides of the coin for Watkins, but if Dallas drafts a defensive tackle early like everyone expects, the team shouldn’t miss the 29-year-old a ton. He would’ve been a luxury signing more than anything else.
