The Dallas Cowboys seemingly would like to draft another quarterback this year. While they re-signed Cooper Rush to backup Dak Prescott, it was only a one-year deal and it’s been a while since they invested in a gunslinger.

Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker was initially dubbed a perfect target for Dallas, but he has since morphed into a potential first-round pick. At worse, Hooker will go in Round 2, and odds are he’s gone by the Cowboys’ No. 58 selection.

With that, Purdue’s Aidan O’Connell is someone to watch. NFL Network reported last week the former Boilermaker had a private workout with Dallas. O’Connell isn’t an elite prospect, but he checks the standard boxes as a 6-foot-3 quarterback who can push the ball downfield and has strong ball placement.

Another name in the mix for the Cowboys is local product Max Duggan, who led TCU to the College Football Playoff Final this past season.

More Cowboys News:

  • Following Duggan’s pro day, NFL Network’s Jane Slater shared the Cowboys are one of three teams, including the Jets and Chargers, who’ve expressed interest in the former Horned Frog. This comes after Duggan met with the team at Dallas Day, and Jerry Jones singled out Duggan as a player who impressed at the Senior Bowl. The connection and interest is undeniable at this point.
  • Stefon Diggs got the NFL community talking with more cryptic tweets. A trade is unlikely after Buffalo restructured his contract, but Bills fans certainly won’t take kindly to the star wideout tweeting “Come and rescue me” late Saturday night.
  • Trevon Diggs added to the speculation with his own cryptic tweets and The younger Diggs retweeted his brother’s post and tweeted “We could play each other twice a year” with a popcorn emoji. He also liked a tweet that centered on his older brother getting traded to … the NY Giants.

NFL News:

  • Eagles corner Darius Slay revealed he was close to signing with the Ravens before returning to Philadelphia. “The Baltimore Ravens were the first team that called,” Slay said on the “Big Play Slay” podcast. “They offered just what I wanted. I said, ‘If the Eagles do that, I’m going to stay an Eagle.’ It was nice now. I was almost a Raven.”
  • Former Packers fullback John Brockington passed away at age 74 Friday. Only Ahman Green, Jim Taylor and Aaron Jones have more rushing yards than Brockington in Green Bay’s decorated history.
