The NFL’s legal tampering period is about to end, and the actual date to sign players is upon us. The Dallas Cowboys were able to get a deal done with safety Donovan Wilson — something that many thought may not be possible.

Now that Wilson is signed, the Cowboys can focus all of their attention on Leighton Vander Esch and Dante Fowler Jr. With that said, they’ll still be looking to fill holes at certain positions in order to be free to draft the best available players on their board.

Much like the draft, the Cowboys have certain criteria they look for when adding players to their roster, and for the most part, it’s worked out well for them. That success tends to have them do the same in free agency, athletic profile along with their price dictate if they will have an interest. Here are a few names that they could be interested in based on that criteria.

Trenton Scott – Guard

Position Criteria: Height: 6’5, Weight: 315lbs , 34′ arm length

PFF Grade: 70.9

The loss of Connor McGovern can’t be understated, while he didn’t have the greatest season with the Cowboys he was a solid left guard for this team. Now Dallas may have to slide their young and talented left tackle Tyler Smith back to left guard in order to field the best offensive line they can. Instead of doing that they can add a guard in free agency and see how things look going into training camp, well if you take a look at what the Cowboys like in guards then Trenton Scott would be a nice signing that makes sense for them. They won’t spend a lot for him and then he can battle it out with Matt Farniok to see who will start at left guard for this team allowing the Cowboys to keep Smith at left tackle and use Tyron Smith as their swing tackle.
