Watching the Combine on NFL Network can be fun, especially when former players lose their minds over some of the incoming athletes. That happened on Saturday when Steve Smith was watching Zay Flowers from Boston College.

Smith said the two were similar but that Flowers was “a bigger dog” than he was during his playing days. They then showed the similarities as they were nearly identical in height, weight, and speed as Flowers ran a 4.42 in the 40-yard dash, edging out the 4.45 Smith ran back in 2001.

A 16-year pro, Smith had 1,031 receptions for 14,731 yards with 81 touchdowns. Should Flowers turn out to be anywhere close to this, he would be well worth the selection for Dallas should he slide into Round 2.

The Cowboys have their No. 1 wideout in CeeDee Lamb and they know Michael Gallup can be better than what he showed in 2021. Adding Flowers as a potential third wideout would round out their receiving corps.

In four seasons at Boston College, Flowers had 200 receptions for 3,056 yards and 29 touchdowns. He had his best season in 2022 with 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has the production and during the Scouting Combine, he proved he has the straight-line speed as well as the route running and body control to get it done at the next level.
