3. Randall Cobb, WR, 2019

Another one-year deal that worked out in the Cowboys’ favor came in 2019 when they signed Randall Cobb to a $5 million deal. Cobb had spent eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers and put together some very impressive campaigns — but had a rough year in 2018.

Cobb finished with just 38 receptions for 383 yards and missed seven games due to injury. Green Bay decided to release him and he landed in Dallas. At 29 years old, he put together his best campaign in four years.

As the third wideout alongside Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup — who each topped 1,000 yards that year — Cobb had 828 yards and three touchdowns on 55 receptions. What was most impressive though was how well he stretched the field. The veteran averaged 15.1 yards per catch, which is the best number of his entire career.

While the offense was fantastic that season, Dallas was just 8-8 and this led to Jason Garrett being fired. In came Mike McCarthy and that seemed like it would be a perfect reason for Cobb to come back and work with his former coach again.

That’s not how it went down as the Houston Texans signed him to a three-year deal worth $27 million. He was traded back to Green Bay after one season and has yet to come close to the numbers he put up in Dallas.
