Cowboys would be crazy not to pursue newly-released AFC wide receiver

The start of free agency is just around the corner, and teams around the NFL have already initiated the process of getting under the salary cap. The Dallas Cowboys are $7 million over, but between making cuts, restructuring contracts, and extending players, there’s a quick path to creating nearly $50 million.

The Cowboys will need all the cap space at their disposal to upgrade the roster. Finding a WR2 to complement CeeDee Lamb is arguably the biggest need this offseason, and the free agent market offers some intriguing names.

The pool of wideouts will only grow as more teams make cap casualties. The Chargers’ Keenan Allen is a name to watch in that regard, as is the Jets’ Corey Davis. Heck, the Giants already went ahead and cut bait with Sterling Shepard.

Allen and Davis are more appealing than Shepard given the latter’s recent history, but what if we told you another WR just hit the market?

The Titans got a headstart in creating cap room Wednesday by releasing longtime tackle Taylor Lewan and vet wideout Robert Woods.

Dallas would be out of its mind not to give Woods a look.

Should the Cowboys sign veteran WR Robert Woods after he was released by the Titans?

A 30-year-old receiver coming off a down year who won’t throw a wrench into the compensatory pick formula? If this isn’t a match made in heaven for Jerry Jones, then what is? Don’t say Odell Beckham Jr. either. That’s too obvious.

Though on the wrong side of 30, Woods played 78% of the Titans’ offensive snaps last season. It didn’t translate to much production, but that can be attributed to Tennessee’s entire passing game being a non-factor. Woods caught 53 passes for 523 yards, and was the team’s leading receiver by almost 100 yards.

How excited is Woods to get out of dodge? Check out the not-so-cryptic tweet he posted minutes after his release was confirmed.

Woods even posed the question of where he should sign next.

Suffice it to say Woods didn’t enjoy his one-year stint in Nashville.

Woods spent his first four seasons with the Bills before he made a big-money move to the Rams as a free agent in 2017. He logged two 1,000-yard seasons, including three straight seasons with 85 or more catches with LA, and was on pace for a third 1,000-yard year in 2021 before he tore his ACL nine games in.

We’d understand if Cowboys fans would rather the front office pursue a bigger (and younger) talent. Perhaps DeAndre Hopkins, Brandin Cooks, Odell, and even Jakobi Meyers move the needle more than the 30-year-old.

In terms of outright free agents, though, Woods is undoubtedly a top-five option with this news alongside Beckham and Meyers.

What do you think, Cowboys Nation? Would you sign Woods?
