Back in 2014 when the Cowboys were looking for a new pass rusher to replace DeMarcus Ware (who was just added to the Pro Football Hall of Fame), they studied nearly everyone who they believed could line up on the edge. One player they targeted was Anthony Barr but the Minnesota Vikings took the UCLA product at No. 9 overall.

Eventually, Dallas moved up in the second round for DeMarcus Lawrence who wound up being the stud they were looking for. While Barr went on to have a great career with Minnesota, he became a more traditional linebacker whereas D-Law has been one of the better defensive ends in the game.

Even so, the Cowboys clearly still liked Barr who was signed to a one-year deal in 2022 once he was finally on the open market. He ended up playing in 14 games with 10 starts and had 58 tackles and one sack. Overall, he was fine but really did more harm than good by the season’s end.

With Damone Clark healthy, he needed to be on the field more. It also might have been better to get Jabril Cox some snaps as well — anything just to get faster on defense, because Barr didn’t help them much in this department.
