3. Kelvin Joseph, Cornerback

Dallas hit a home run in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft when they landed Trevon Diggs who led the NFL in interceptions during his sophomore campaign with 11. They aimed for another starter in the following year with another cornerback selection in the second round.

This time, it was Kelvin Joseph from Kentucky who they targeted. While Diggs had quick success in Dallas, Joseph was unable to see the field much as a rookie. He managed to play in 10 games with two starts and had just 16 tackles and two pass defenses.

He was then in the news for the wrong reasons this past offseason when he was part of a murder investigation, although he was never charged with a crime. Joseph issued an apology to the victim as well as the Dallas community for even being involved. He then turned his focus to the upcoming season, in hopes of a larger role in 2022.

That never happened as Joseph was unable to win a starting role. He even found himself playing on special teams more than the base defense after Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis were each on the IR.

He did log one start following Brown’s injury and it was a performance to forget. In a meltdown loss to Jacksonville, Joseph gave up two touchdowns to Zay Jones, including a 59-yarder that fueled the comeback.

After that, he was benched and never could surpass DaRon Bland or Nahshon Wright. In all, Joseph logged just 166 snaps on defense compared to 317 on special teams.

While he did create a big turnover in the loss to San Francisco during the postseason, he hardly stood out in that role for a positive reason. Instead, he was flagged multiple times and had a knack for erasing a big play on special teams.
