The Dallas Cowboys 2022 draft class will be one to remember.

That includes second-round pick Sam Williams, who contributed 10 tackles for loss and four sacks despite playing behind Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence off the edge. Williams showed loads of potential in a part-time role, and fans are hopeful he takes a leap as a sophomore in an increased role.

The only question surrounding Williams coming into the draft was his “character” after he was charged with sexual battery while at Ole Miss in 2020.

Williams nearly made it through his entire rookie season without any off-field missteps. His lone hiccup, however, was a significant one, as he was involved in a two-car accident in December. Williams’ car was totaled in the crash, and luckily he and the drive of the other vehicle avoided serious injuries.

Williams was cited for misdemeanor reckless driving. The details of Williams’ recklessness have emerged, and they are troubling.

According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the rookie was driving close to 100 mph in a 55 mph zone, and weaving between vehicles before the crash. These chilling details paint a good picture of how lucky Williams is that he — and nobody else on the road — was harmed.

More Cowboys News:

  • Police said Williams’ black Corvette was weaving between other vehicles when his car struck the driver of a black Xfiniti QX60. The driver of the Infiniti, Patricia Hayes, failed to yield the right away while making a left turn, per the police.
  • The Cowboys signed defensive back/special-teamer Tyler Coyle to a reserve/future contract. Coyle made his season debut in Week 18 before an MCL injury suffered in practice shelved him for the playoffs. Dallas also inked WR Dontario Drummond, DB Sheldrick Redwine, safety Juanyeh Thomas, and centers Brock Hoffman and Alec Lindstrom to reserve/future contracts.
  • The Cowboys are projected to receive three compensatory picks in the 2023 draft, according to Over The Cap. The loss of Randy Gregory is expected to net them a fourth-rounder, while Connor Williams and Cedrick Wilson (both signed with Miami), could net Dallas fifth- and sixth-rounders, respectively.

NFL News:

  • Packers QB Aaron Rodgers hasn’t made a decision about whether he’ll continue playing in 2023. If he does return, he told Pat McAfee that he’s open to reworking his contract, a la Ezekiel Elliott. Rodgers is owed $59.465 million guaranteed in 2023 and will carry a $31.6 million cap hit.
  • Former Broncos head coach Vic Fangio has hired as the Dolphin defensive coordinator. His contract with Miami makes him one of the league’s highest-paid coordinators. Fangio finished 19-30 in three years as Denver’s head coach, but he’s one of the best defensive coaches in the game.
