Even though they couldn’t get past the second round (again), the Dallas Cowboys should be proud of securing their second-straight 12-5 season. It’s even more impressive knowing they were 4-1 with Cooper Rush starting under center while Dak Prescott was injured.

Now with the offseason here, they’re going to look to continue to build their roster. They have some decisions to make in free agency but this front office believes in building through the draft. With that being the case, we look at how that process could play out with this seven-round mock draft.

Round 1: Joey Porter, Jr., CB, Penn State

It was clear when Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis were both sidelined with injuries that Dallas has a lot of issues at cornerback. They believe in Trevon Diggs as one of the starters and rookie Daron Bland was a pleasant surprise.

Having said that, Kelvin Joseph and Nahshon Wright were both less than impressive when called upon. For that reason, they should be scouting cornerbacks this offseason and in this mock, they end up landing Joey Porter, Jr. from Penn State.

Dallas has had good luck with defenders from Penn State as Sean Lee was a fixture for many years and Micah Parsons is now their best player on defense. Now, they go back to the well and add Porter, who has NFL bloodlines.

His father, Joey Porter, Sr., was a star linebacker for years in the NFL — and known best for his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The younger Porter has incredible size at 6-foot-2 and boasts a huge wingspan. He’s the prototypical defensive back Dan Quinn looks for and could help round out his defense, assuming he returns.
