Most Improved Player: Donovan Wilson

Perhaps this was due to being behind Malik Hooker and Jayron Kearse on the depth chart last season, so he never got his chance to show what he could do in consistent snaps, but regardless, Donovan Wilson has been the most improved player for the Cowboys this season.

In 2020, Wilson had a sort of a breakout season. However, Kearse ended up with his job last season. Now, in 2022, in Kearse’s absence, Wilson has run with his opportunity. He currently leads the team in tackles with 59 but has made his biggest impact near the line of scrimmage.

In just 20 pass rush snaps, the safety has totaled nine pressures, three sacks, three hurries, and a forced fumble. He not only can get to the quarterback, but he also has 21 run stops which are top among NFL safeties.

Wilson has done a great just of doing what a safety should do — keeping everything in front of him. He has allowed a long catch of just 13 yards this year and 71 yards total. He has been a big reason why this defense has been as good as it has been, and with Kearse now back, the secondary has the potential to be very scary.
