Cowboys bye week 7-round NFL Mock Draft: Offense the focus early on
By Randy Gurzi
During the first couple of days of the Dallas Cowboys bye week, the NFL trade deadline passed and there were no moves made in Big D. Criticizing them for this isn’t completely fair because the asking price for Brandin Cooks was high and they did add Johnathan Hankins — it was just done a week before the deadline.
Still, for those wanting to see more playmakers added to the offense, they’ll have to wait until 2023. And with how frugal this front office has become, that means it will most likely be draft picks that answer the call. Here, we dive into our latest seven-round mock draft as the ‘Boys go after some talented pass-catchers early on.
Cowboys bye week 7-round NFL Mock Draft
Round 1: Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU
Dallas did come close to acquiring Cooks at the deadline. The problem was that a second and fourth-round pick was the reported asking price, which was too steep for a No. 2 wideout, especially when his $18 million salary in 2023 is thrown into the mix.
That doesn’t mean there’s not still a need at wideout — albeit self-inflicted, but let’s not open that wound. In an effort to rebuild their offense, they add TCU wideout Quentin Johnson with their first pick in this mock.
Johnston is a huge target at 6-foot-4 and 193-pounds. However, he’s not just a tall wideout, he’s also insanely athletic.

A former basketball and track star, Johnston has unnatural speed for such a large player, evidenced by his 18.3 yards per reception average in three years. Adding him alongside CeeDee Lamb should help fix the passing attack and if players such as Noah Brown continue to develop — and re-sign — they could be very deep there once again as well.
