Special Teams

Surprisingly, the special teams unit has been one of the most fun parts of this team. From field goals, to kick returns, to punt coverage, this group has been so solid all-around so far in the 2022 season.

Brett Maher, who would’ve thought, has been one of the most consistent kickers in the entire league to date. Maher is currently 15-for-17 on field goal attempts while also being four-for-six on field goals more than 50 yards. He is also perfect on extra points that haven’t been blocked.

On punts, the team has a solid net average of 42.4 yards per punt. Bryan Anger has done a good job of pinning opponents deep in their own territory, landing 13 punts within the other team’s 20-yard line.

On the returning end, KaVontae Turpin and Tony Pollard have done a great job of giving the offense good field possession consistently. The Cowboys have one of the highest punt return averages in the NFL, while also ranking fourth in kickoff return average.

The team is also very active on punt blocks, especially Dorance Armstrong, who has left his mark. He has a blocked punt and a blocked field goal this season. The special teams unit is playing very very well this season. Credit to John Fassel for having this unit ready.
