Offensive Line

Man, the offensive line has gone through it in the first half of the season. The loss of a future Hall of Famer at left tackle certainly has hurt, although Tyler Smith has done a fine job filling in. Nagging injuries to Connor McGovern have also been a sore spot on the line.

Injuries to Matt Farniok and Matt Waletzko also have been a pain to the depth of the offensive line. However, they have fought through adversity and have been a fairly respectable unit through eight games.

According to PFF, the group ranks 16th in the NFL in run blocking grade (60.4) and 19th in pass blocking grade (62.5). However, despite those ranks, the offense has one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL, and the Cowboys have allowed the fifth-least sacks in the league with 12.

Zack Martin has been great as usual and Terence Steele and Tyler Biadasz have both taken some steps in their games. McGovern has been really solid while he’s been healthy and Smith has had his flashes. Meanwhile, Jason Peters looks great when he’s in, but he hasn’t seen too many snaps. Overall, solid performance by the line to start the season.
